Our windows feature low-emissivity glass coatings that will improve your home’s energy efficiency and make it more comfortable. This makes our windows an excellent choice for your window replacement project. Renewal by Andersen® of Northwest Ohio explains what’s behind low-e glass and how it will benefit your home.
What is Low-E Glass?
Our replacement windows in Bowling Green, OH, all come with low-e glass. This special window glass minimizes the amount of infrared and ultraviolet light that passes through the glass. It does this without compromising the transmission of visible light. Low-e glass has a microscopically thin and transparent coating that reflects long-wave infrared energy or heat. When interior heat energy tries to escape during winter, the coating will reflect it back keeping the heat in. The reverse happens during summer.
You can think of low-e glass like a thermos. A thermos has a silver lining that reflects the temperature of the liquid it contains. The thermos maintains the liquid’s temperature because of the constant reflection. The air space between the inner and outer shells provides further insulation. This is similar to the insulating gases that enhance our low-e glass. Low-e glass works like a thermos and reflects interior temperature back inside; keeping the room warm or cold dependent upon your interior temperature.
How Can Our Low-E Glass Benefit You?
The High-Performance™ Low E4® glass we use on our replacement windows in Perrysburg, OH, is energy-efficient. It’s 56% more energy-efficient in summer, and 45% more energy-efficient in winter when you compare it with ordinary dual-pane glass. Since the glass helps maintain your room’s temperature, it reduces the workload on your heating and air conditioning systems. Depending on your location, this translates to savings of up to 25% on your energy bills.
In addition, the low-e coatings we apply to our glass block up to 84% of harmful ultraviolet rays. This helps protect your furniture from fading. You can also upgrade to some of our better glass packages, including our High-Performance Low-E4 SmartSun™ glass. The High-Performance Low-E4 SmartSun™ glass is our most energy-efficient glass option. It’s also effective at blocking UV rays. Meanwhile, our High-Performance Low-E4 Sun™ glass provides superior protection against solar heat gain and glare.
Our windows can save you a significant amount of money and can greatly improve your home’s comfort level. In addition to low-E technology, we apply oxide coatings to make the glass surface easier to clean. This also reduces water spotting by up to 99% when sunlight activates the glass. This makes our windows very easy to maintain. Give us a call if you’d like to learn more about our window glass or to schedule a free in-home consultation.
